Accommodation types

We propose to have 32 units, with 60-80 mixed-generation residents living in self-contained houses and apartments. A mix of two-thirds privately-owned or rented dwellings will permit us to offer a balance of ‘affordable’  properties – either in shared ownership or rented.

Each unit will have a small garden or balcony. Shared car parking will be provided at the entrance to the site near the common house, with pedestrian-only access elsewhere – though with provision for disabled drivers and emergency vehicles.

Ecologically-sensitive building standards

To keep annual running costs and environmental impact to a minimum, we hope to build to the demanding Passivhaus standard.

The Passivhaus Trust explains:

“Passivhaus buildings provide a high level of occupant comfort while using very little energy for heating and cooling. They are built with meticulous attention to detail and rigorous design and construction according to principles developed by the Passivhaus Institute in Germany, and can be certified through an exacting quality assurance process.”

Passivhaus is in effect the ‘gold standard’ of modern ecologically-sensitive building design
